The butterfly is one of my favorite insects. A butterfly’s life cycle has four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Each stage has a different goal. To grow into an adult, a butterfly must go through a complete metamorphosis.

I believe the caterpillar is able to keep a positive attitude when it is in the cocoon. The caterpillar knows it will eventually become a butterfly. But first the caterpillar has to complete the different stages in the life cycle.

People may not believe in your dreams. Family and friends may not recognize your gifts and talents. To some you may look like a diamond in the rough. I challenge you to keep moving forward with or without the applause of others.

We all must go through the lifecycle to success. Remember, you are a butterfly; you may just be going through your cocoon stage. If you do not quit, soon your wings will spread and you will be flying high up the ladder of success.

I did not know how my life would unfold when I graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Ten years later, I am a life coach, author, living donor, and a motivational speaker. Each life lesson and life experience has ordered my steps closer to my destiny.

I started out unpolished, but with hard work, persistent and good mentorship, I believe I am starting to shine bright like a diamond.
